The Ukrainian border service reported that about 2,200 trucks are currently waiting in line at the border with Poland. This situation arose as a result of the farmers' strike in Poland, which began on February 9 and caused the blockade of roads and checkpoints.
"As of this morning, a total of 2,200 trucks are waiting in line on these six routes. Most of them are opposite the checkpoints "Krakivets", "Rava-Ruska" and "Yagodin", said Andrii Demchenko, the spokesman of the State Border Service.
According to him, at the "Yagodin" checkpoint, Polish farmers do not allow trucks traveling from Ukraine to Poland to pass at all.
On February 9, a farmers' strike announced by the Solidarity trade union began in Poland. During the month, they plan to block all checkpoints, as well as roads and highways in certain voivodships.
In addition to the ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, the Polish protesters oppose the European agrarian policy, in particular, against the implementation of the "green order" - it refers to a number of environmental and climate requirements. Support for animal husbandry is also among the requirements.
During the Polish farmers' protest, there were at least four cases of spilling of Ukrainian grain.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal declares that the issue of unblocking the border with Poland must be resolved by March 28, otherwise Ukraine reserves the right to apply mirror measures at checkpoints.
