The Ukrainian authorities are not considering the possibility of lowering the mobilization age from 25 to 18 or 20, nor are they planning forced mobilization for women. This was stated in a commentary by RBC-Ukraine, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Deputy Maryan Venislavskyi.
"No legislative initiatives to lower the mobilization age from 25 to 18 or to 20 years old - neither in the parliament in general, nor in the specialized committee of the Verkhovna Rada on national security issues in particular - are being considered," he emphasized.
According to his words, there are currently no initiatives to introduce forced mobilization of women. Venislavskyi also noted that although women can be conscripted if they voluntarily undergo basic military service, forced mobilization for them is not yet planned.
These statements were a response to possible rumors and debates in society about the possibility of lowering the mobilization age and involving women in the army as part of forced mobilization, in particular due to the growing needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in wartime conditions.
Currently, mobilization continues in Ukraine, but the legally established age for mobilization is 18-60 years. As Venislavsky noted, lowering the age of mobilization is currently not a subject of discussion among people's deputies, and no changes in this direction are foreseen in the future either.
As for the mobilization of women, no legislative initiatives are currently under consideration. However, in the conditions of war, where the need for personnel is critical, the question of the involvement of women in military formations periodically arises in public discussions.
