The head of the Union of Utilities Consumers, Oleg Popenko, warns of a possible increase in electricity tariffs as a result of shelling of the Ukrainian gas transportation system. In his statement, he emphasizes the serious consequences this could have for the next heating season.
If the Russian occupiers continue to shell Ukrainian critical infrastructure, this could lead to "serious consequences." In Ukraine, electricity tariffs will probably be raised to approximately UAH 3.5/kWh. This was announced by the head of the Union of Utilities Consumers, Oleg Popenko, on the air of "Noviny.Live".
Popenko noted that if measures are not taken to protect Ukrainian gas storage facilities, this may cause problems throughout the country.
"Because in addition to the fact that we store gas, we use it there for the winter. We pump Ukrainian gas into our gas storage facilities and then extract it during the winter. That is, we are currently extracting gas and pumping it into our gas storages," he emphasizes.
According to the head of the Union of Utilities Consumers, if the attacks on the gas transportation system continue, it may "lead to quite serious consequences" during the next heating season.
"If such problems continue, and Syrota confirmed this (Ihor Syrota - head of Ukrhydroenergo - ed.), they see that electricity tariffs need to be raised for repairs. And on average, they plan to raise up to UAH 3.5," Popenko explains.
We will remind, according to experts, the Russians wanted to divide the energy system of Ukraine into several parts and thus provoke a blackout.
