The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine proposes to significantly change the mechanism of financial support of families after the birth of a child. The corresponding bill has already been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. First Deputy Minister Dariya Marchak told this.
On a new initiative, young parents are offered to pay UAH 50,000 at birth at once. This one -time assistance will be available to all moms regardless of family income.
In addition, they plan to significantly increase monthly payments during the first year of life of the child. Families now receive 860 hryvnias a month, but within the reform this amount will increase several times - the exact figure is not disclosed as they continue.
The main purpose of change is to provide women with greater financial independence, especially in families where the main income has a man. As Daria Marchak emphasized, even if her mother does not work temporarily, she must have her own funds so as not to be completely dependent.
If the Cabinet approves the project, it will be transferred to the Verkhovna Rada. A dialogue with the Ministry of Finance is already underway to provide the necessary funds in the budget for 2026.
New payments are expected to take effect from January 1, 2026.
Currently, childbirth assistance is a total of 41 280 UAH: 10 320 are paid once, and the rest is 860 UAH per month for 36 months.
According to experts, the modernization of the help system is an important step to maintain young families in the face of increasing the cost of living and inflation. It will also help improve the demographic situation in the country.
