From the end of January 2025, fuel prices at gas stations in Ukraine are expected to rise by 1.5–2 hryvnias. Experts cite several factors as the reason for the increase in prices: the increase in excise taxes on fuel, the increase in world oil prices and the possible devaluation of the hryvnia.
"From January 1, gas stations will purchase fuel for one and a half to two hryvnias more expensive. So, sometime from the end of January, it will already be reflected for customers on gas station shelves," he said.
According to him, gas station chains usually have two to three weeks of fuel reserves, which were purchased at the old prices.
However, the expert warns that the increase in fuel prices may start before the end of January. He cites the escalation of the situation with prices on the global oil market on the eve of Donald Trump's inauguration and the threat of further devaluation of the hryvnia as possible reasons.
"Then we will start raising prices immediately due to these factors. That is, we now have a multifactorial increase in prices on the horizon," Lyushkin added.
From January 1, another stage of fuel excise tax increases is expected in Ukraine, in accordance with the law signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky back in September 2024.
The document provides that until 2028, the rates of excise tax on fuel will increase and will amount to: gasoline - 359 euros per 1,000 liters; diesel fuel – 330 euros per 1000 l; liquefied gas – 70 euros per 1000 l.
The founder of the "Prime" logistics group of companies, an expert on the fuel market, Dmytro Lyushkin, said that the main impact of the tax increase will be on gas stations, which sell poorly in stores and do not generate additional profit to include it in the new tax.
