In Ukraine, the stamp "Secret" from geological information on subsoil was removed. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svetlana Grinchuk has informed about it. This step aims to attract investors, simplify access to resource data and bring Ukrainian subsoil policy closer to international transparency standards.
According to the head of Mindovquil, bureaucratic procedures are now completed, after which the data will become open for public access. Previously, all the information was stored exclusively in paper form, which significantly limited the ability of investors and restrained cooperation with international partners.
6,000 geological books have already been digitized. Within the second stage, they plan to translate another 60,000 documents with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The project was also joined by the US Finance Corporation DFC.
The Government of Ukraine, together with the Ministry of Economy, has prepared a list of strategic and critical minerals with a focus on the needs of the European Union and the United States. The rights to develop subsoil will be granted to investors through auctions or product distribution agreements.
In addition, a 3D Model of the Zavaliv deposit has already been created in cooperation with France, as well as geological interaction with the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada has expanded.
The European Business Association has previously emphasized the need for a declassification of geodes. According to EBA representatives, it was one of the main obstacles to attracting international investments in the sphere of mineral production.
Purification of subsoil information from the secrecy stamp opens a new page for the Ukrainian economy, in particular in the context of strategic resource development and strengthening international partnership.
