The spring of 2025 shows anomalous weather fluctuations: Ukrainians wear coats and shorts for one week. Experts point out is not just a seasonal feature, but a consequence of rapid climatic changes that are already felt in all regions of the country.
According to Telegraph, climatologist Vera Balabukh notes that over the past 60 years, the average temperature in Ukraine has increased 2.5 times faster than global. Because of this, drought occurs more often, reducing rainfall, and in the southern regions the problem of desertification is exacerbated.
"The area of Oleshkiv sands is expanding, and the destruction of the Kakhovka reservoir has only worsened the moisture deficit," the expert said.
At the same time, despite warming, the climate of Ukraine remains moderate. Thermophilic crops, such as grapes and peaches, are already growing in the north of the country, but agriculture faces the instability of weather and a lack of moisture in the spring.
Meteorologists warn that the summer of 2025 will be even more hot than last year. According to the weather forecaster Igor Kibalchich, the probability of excess temperatures is 70-75%.
In July-August, waves of heat with a temperature above +40 ° C are possible, especially in the south and east of Ukraine. During these periods, hot air masses from Africa and the Middle East will come to the country.
September can also be warm - in recent years it often repeats the summer scenario with temperatures above +30 ° C.
In terms of precipitation, experts talk about their uneven distribution. Thunderstorms are local in nature: a monthly norm in one area may fall within one city, while others will remain dry. This increases the risks of hail, storms and even tornadoes.
Oleg Khomenko, CEO of the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club, notes that the heat and drought has significantly affected the harvest in recent years. According to him, temperatures above +35 ° C slow the vegetation, and under +40 ° C the plants literally "bake" in the fields.
“We observe either the complete absence of rains or rainfall with hail that destroy crops. In such circumstances, we rely on agrotechnology - moisture conservation, anti -stress treatment, drought resistant hybrids, ”Khomenko said.
Among the cultures that are better adapted to new conditions are sunflower, soybean and new varieties of corn.
