The number of patients with COVID-19 is growing rapidly in Ukraine

In the west of Ukraine, there is a significant increase in the incidence of COVID-19, in particular in the Lviv, Volyn and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Experts note that the situation is worsening, and new data indicate the spread of the disease among different age groups.

Regional statistics and trends

According to the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of cases of COVID-19 in the Lviv Region has increased to 496 over the past week, which is 293 more cases compared to the previous week. In particular, among the sick are 54 children, of which 50% are children under the age of 4. 22% of patients are over 65 years old. 8% of patients require hospitalization.

The Volyn Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports a sustained increase in the incidence of COVID-19 over the past two weeks. Last week, 101 cases of the disease were recorded, which is three times more than in the previous week. The vast majority of patients have a mild form of the disease. The Omicron strain is actively circulating in Volyn, in particular its variant JN.1 (Jenny). A new subvariant of the "FLiRT" coronavirus has not been identified at the moment.

In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the director of the regional center for disease control and prevention, Ruslan Savchuk, said that in July 1,829 people with suspicion of COVID-19 were examined, 7.7% of whom had the disease confirmed. Compared to June, the number of positive tests increased by 11.9%.

New subvariant "Omicron" in Ukraine

Three cases of a new subvariant of the "Omicron" coronavirus called "FLiRT" have been recorded in Ukraine. These cases were registered in July - two in Kyiv and one in Ivano-Frankivsk region. Deputy Minister of Health and Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin explained that the new "FLiRT" subvariant is more likely to affect weakened immunity and can make even previously vaccinated persons sick. However, acquired immunity after vaccination reduces the risk of serious complications.

Experts call on the population to increase caution and observe preventive measures. It is important to continue vaccinations, adhere to the mask regime and social distance, as well as seek medical help at the first signs of the disease.
