The population of Ukraine in the territory controlled by the territory is currently about 31.5 million. At the same time, demographic losses over the war have reached 10 million, which is almost a quarter of the country's population compared to pre -war indicators.
This was announced during a briefing by the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research by Ella Libanov.
“According to the estimates that we have already done now, the population of Ukraine in the control of the legitimate Ukrainian authorities reaches about 31.5 million. That is, directly demographic losses due to the war as of the mid-2024 of about 10 million people. This is almost a quarter of the total population of Ukraine before the 2014 aggression, ”Libanova said.
In particular, according to the expert, those who left Ukraine, about 4.5 million, of which a third are teenagers under 18. Instead, only 6% are persons over 65, which indicates a significant increase in the aging process of the nation in war. Demographic losses, especially among young people and women of reproductive age, are jeopardizing demographic growth and future development of the country.
