The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the list of positions in the field of education and science for which English language knowledge will become mandatory. The requirement will take effect four years after the termination or abolition of martial law.
This was reported by a government representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk. The decision was made within the framework of the Law of Ukraine “On the Application of English in Ukraine”.
According to the decree, English is required for employees in the following positions:
- in higher education institutions: rectors, pro -rectors, deans, heads of departments, professors, heads of international departments and units;
- in colleges: employees responsible for international activity and heads of units working with foreign students;
-in vocational schools: methodologists and representatives of the administration who coordinate cooperation with international partners;
- in scientific institutions: heads of postgraduate studies, heads of publishers, senior researchers and other officials involved in external communications.
The innovation aims to increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian science and education at the international level, as well as more active integration into the European academic space.
These changes are expected to stimulate foreign language proficiency among management and teaching staff, which in turn will contribute to the expansion of cooperation with foreign universities, grant programs and international partners.
