During the eleven months of 2023, Joint-Stock Company “Ukrzaliznytsia” transported privileged passengers by rail in the Kharkiv region, receiving UAH 21.3 million for this. The carrier's press service reported this in response to a media request.
It is noted that local authorities paid only 21% of the total amount for services provided to privileged categories of the population, which amounts to 4.5 million hryvnias for the indicated period.
The report also indicates that the regional branch "Southern Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" suffered losses of UAH 1.385 billion from passenger transportation in suburban services in the first nine months of 2023. The branch serves not only the Kharkiv region, but also Poltava, Sumy, and some areas of Chernihiv and Luhansk regions.
It is noted that since January 1, 2017, expenses for compensation payments for preferential travel for certain categories of citizens have been included in local budget expenditures in accordance with the amendments made to the Budget Code of Ukraine.
During the indicated period last year, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia put into operation three updated electric trains, which are already operating in the Kharkiv region, providing a connection between Kharkiv and Poltava, as well as connecting Lozova, Krasnograd and Ogultsy with Poltava and Kremenchuk.
