There were serious differences between Ukraine and the United States regarding the conditions of a possible termination of war. About it reports CNN with reference to sources close to the Ukrainian government.
Key controversial moments are security guarantees and Crimean status issues. The Ukrainian side insists on obtaining security guarantees not only from European partners but also from the United States. Instead, the primary US proposal assumes that only European countries should provide such guarantees.
The issue of Crimea remains especially sharp. The United States has made it possible to recognize Russian control over the peninsula, which is categorically rejected in Kiev. The Ukrainian side also insists on discussing the territories captured by Russia after 2022.
The counter -proposition of Kyiv, supported by France, the United Kingdom and Germany, has already been transferred to Kelloga Kita, Donald Trump's main representative in Ukraine. The Ukrainian proposal contains a requirement for immediate and complete ceasefire by both parties.
At the same time, Ukraine agreed to several points in the US initiative. Among them is the gradual removal of some sanctions against Russia after the peace agreement is signed, the rejection of NATO accession, the freezing of the front line and the return of control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Although there is no full consent yet, CNN states that the very fact of Ukraine's readiness to discuss territorial issues is a great concession. However, if the Trump team does not appreciate this step properly, the peace talks can be deadlocked.
