Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) has decided to withdraw from a fight with WBA champion Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) scheduled for this year.
Lomachenko's manager, Egis Klimas, explained that the boxer currently has no motivation to return to the ring.
“Loma is not in the mood right now. He wants to spend more time with his family and doesn’t plan to enter the ring until the end of the year,” Klimas told journalist Steve Kim.
According to Klimas, while a fight with Davis would promise significant financial gain, money is not the main motivator for Lomachenko. “You can offer him millions, tens of millions of dollars, but if he’s not motivated, he won’t prepare for the fight,” Klimas added.
The manager also assured that Lomachenko has not ended his career.
Vasyl Lomachenko previously stated that his sports career is almost over. He admitted that fights are becoming increasingly difficult for him.
In May, Lomachenko fought a championship fight against Australian George Kambosos for the IBF lightweight world title. The fight ended prematurely in the 11th round: Lomachenko knocked down his opponent twice, after which the fight was over.
