Teachers in Kiev and Odessa began to receive monthly surcharges for wages financed by local budgets. In each of these cities, the approach to allowances is different, but the goal is one to support teachers and to provide a decent level of income of educational workers.
The capital's authorities directed UAH 2.4 billion to increase salaries for educators. This was reported by Valentin Mondrievsky, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration. Teachers receive an allowance of 30% of the salary depending on the qualification category.
At the moment, the surcharges have already been paid to the teachers of Holosiivskyi, Desnyanskiy, Dniprovsky, Obolon, Podilsky, Svyatoshinsky and Solomenskyi districts. In the Pechersk district, only pre -school and extracurricular education workers have been financially supported, but the authorities promise that the situation will be corrected in the near future.
“Kyiv fulfills its obligations, ensuring funding and support of teachers. We understand that we cannot change the rate because it depends on the state, but we create a premium system that will become monthly since 2025, ”Mondrievsky explained.
Odessa also made a decision on monthly surcharges of educators, to which local authorities have allocated more than UAH 220 million. The Director of the Department of Education and Science of Odessa City Council Olena Buynevich noted that payments were divided into categories:
- Teachers, educators and educators : 2000 UAH.
- Education staff (librarians, doctors, laboratory assistants, cooks) : 1000 UAH.
- Young specialists : 3000 UAH, as well as last year.
Educators are expected to receive the first allowances with April salary, but the city authorities are working on the acceleration of the process.
"The deputies are already discussing issues to make a decision earlier, perhaps at a spring session," - said Bulynevich.
The decision of Kyiv and Odessa to join the initiative of raising the income of educators has become a good example for other regions. Decent conditions for teachers are not only support for their work, but also investing in the development of the future generation.
In the context of martial law, stability in the educational sphere becomes even more important, and additional funds will help teachers feel more confident.
