In Transcarpathia, border guards uncovered an attempt to illegally cross the border: in a minibus loaded with vegetables, they found eight men hiding behind a specially equipped wall. The incident occurred near the checkpoint of the "Vylok" border department of the Mukachevo detachment.
According to the Ukrainian State Traffic Safety Administration, the Mercedes Sprinter vehicle belonged to a 63-year-old resident of Transcarpathia. During the inspection, the driver assured the border guards that he was not transporting anything except vegetables. However, during a detailed inspection of the minibus, the border guards noticed an unusual additional wall. Eight men were hiding behind it, including residents of different regions: Kherson, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Zakarpattia, and Lviv.
The men planned to illegally cross the border and reach Hungary outside of official checkpoints. However, their "plan" failed.
The driver and the "passengers" were detained and taken to the border unit. According to law enforcement officers, the driver's actions fall under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for the illegal crossing of persons across the state border .
Currently, investigators from the Mukachevo detachment are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the organization of this "trip." Border guards are checking the driver's possible connections with the organizers of the scheme to illegally smuggle men of draft age abroad.
Such attempts to evade mobilization during wartime are not isolated. In a recent similar case, a Moldovan citizen was sentenced to eight years in prison for organizing a channel for the illegal smuggling of people.
