In Ukraine, the largest pharmacy networks have signed a declaration on the availability of medicines. The document provides a reduction in the cost of medicines at all stages - from the manufacturer to the end buyer. The initiative is aimed at increasing the availability of medicines for citizens.
This is stated on the website of the Pharmacy Professional Association of Ukraine (APAU).
Pharmacy networks also called on manufacturers and distributors to join the document and reduce prices for their products.
According to the agreements, the signatories of the declarations took on the following obligations:
- Manufacturers will reduce selling prices for all registered medicines compared to prices in force on January 1, 2025.
- Distributors will proportionally reduce wholesale prices using a similar manufacturer a discount on their margin.
- Pharmacies will reduce retail prices, in proportion to reducing their margins for medicines that are supplied with a discount.
According to the signatories, such measures will allow to achieve cumulative reduction of the cost of medicines for end consumers.
Guarantee and control of the implementation of arrangements
The signatories of the Declaration have undertaken to prevent hidden rise in prices or changes in supply schemes that may delineate the agreed on the cost of medication. Distributors should also ensure a uniform distribution of medicines throughout Ukraine to avoid product shortages.
If one of the parties violates its obligations, the other initiative participants have the right to apply to sectoral associations and market regulators with a request to review the offender's participation in the program. In addition, the signatories agreed to cooperate with the antitrust authorities to prevent abuse in the pharmaceutical market.
When the declaration will come into force
It is planned that the initiative will take effect from March 1, 2025.
Currently, representatives of the pharmacy "Pharmacy 9-1-1", "We wish health", "ANC pharmacy", "Good afternoon pharmacy", "Pharmacy plantain" joined the declaration. The document remains open to all participants in the pharmaceutical market, which support transparent pricing for medicines.
