The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has the opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the first point of the victory plan proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky . This point concerns Ukraine's invitation to NATO even before the end of the war. This opinion was expressed by People's Deputy from the Golos Yaroslav Yurchyshyn in an interview with the Glavkom publication.
Yurchyshyn noted that NATO membership may be a distant prospect, but the very invitation to the Alliance would be a clear signal to the aggressor country: "This will indicate that the Alliance is ready to accept Ukraine. Thus, Putin's plan to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO has failed.".
The People's Deputy emphasized that having at least some kind of plan is a better alternative to its absence, since otherwise foreign decisions may be imposed on Ukraine: "Russia is actively working in this direction.".
Yurchyshyn also added that none of the specifics voiced in the victory plan could be made public. “The plan must be presented in such a way that the aggressor country cannot use it against us. Regarding the details of each of the points, many questions can be asked, most of which should be classified as restricted information,” he explained.
The deputy emphasized that the Verkhovna Rada has a lot of work to do to accelerate the implementation of the first point of the plan. He believes that Ukraine is fulfilling most of its commitments, including in the area of reforms: "This is not only the reform of the Security Service, it is a huge number of social and legal reforms.".
Yurchyshyn also noted that parliament should continue to oversee the use of Western weapons in accordance with agreements with partners and report on this.
Let us recall that President Zelensky emphasized: there is and cannot be any alternative to peace, no freezing of the war, or other manipulations that would move Russian aggression to another stage.
