The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine took an important step in the fight against tobacco smoking by supporting draft law No. 11090 in the first reading, which provides for an increase in the excise tax on tobacco products.
This decision is part of the government's broader strategy to strengthen the health of the nation and increase revenue for the state budget.
People's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this.
"The basis is 249 votes," he said.
The People's Deputy explained that according to the draft law, the excise tax on cigarettes is pegged to the euro, not the hryvnia. In 2025, it will grow by +23%, and then in 2016-2028 it will be +5%.
"This year, there will be an increase only in case of devaluation," Zheleznyak added.
The implementation of the draft law will result in an increase in budget revenues due to additional revenue from excise tax on tobacco products in the amount of about UAH 612 million in 2025, UAH 5 billion in 2026, UAH 9.3 billion in 2027, and UAH 13.8 billion in 2028. billion hryvnias
