The Verkhovna Rada supported a new draft law that simplifies the procedure for receiving housing compensation for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Bill No. 11161 was approved in the first reading on June 4, 2024.
The explanatory note to the draft law states that it is aimed at improving the social and economic situation of IDPs, improving their lives and adaptation, as well as at the rapid integration of displaced persons into new communities.
One of the authors of the draft law, MP Vasyl Mokan, said that the approval in the first reading is a step towards simplifying the procedure for receiving housing compensation for residents of front-line or occupied territories. According to him, if the residents of the liberated territories could receive compensation for the destroyed housing, then a similar algorithm has not yet been prescribed for the resettled people.
The authors of the draft law propose:
- Do not carry out the procedure of surveying real estate (damaged or destroyed) located in the zone of active hostilities or in the occupied territories.
- To equate damaged real estate objects in the occupied territories with destroyed ones.
- Simplify the procedure for receiving compensation for damaged or destroyed real estate for IDPs.
The bill has so far passed only the first reading.
