The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted an important draft law that provides a deferment from mobilization to conscripts whose half-brother or sister died or went missing while participating in hostilities.
People's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced this in his Telegram channel. The draft law No. 11391 was supported by 310 people's deputies and voted immediately as a whole. The new legislation expands the right to a deferral of the draft for those who have non-consanguineous brothers or sisters killed or missing in action during hostilities, particularly during periods of martial law.
Previously, the law provided for a deferral only for those who had dead or missing full siblings — that is, relatives who share a common parent. Now, the new law extends this right to those who have lost or missing half-brothers or sisters, that is, relatives who have a common mother or father.
Under the new rules, deferment from mobilization is granted to men whose non-consanguineous relatives were killed or went missing during the anti-terrorist operation or as a result of a full-scale Russian invasion.
This step is important to provide support and help to families who have suffered losses during the war. The adoption of the law is aimed at recognizing and supporting the victims of war, as well as strengthening the social responsibility of the state.
The bill will enter into force after the President signs it, which will allow conscripts to take advantage of new rights and provide support for the families of those killed and missing during hostilities.
