The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted important changes to the Tax Code, which concern the deprivation of benefits and payments for state awards for collaborators and traitors. The draft law, supported by 341 deputies, introduces new norms that can fundamentally change the approach to persons who support the aggressive policy of the aggressor state or commit other illegal actions against Ukraine.
According to the new changes, persons who conduct propaganda in favor of the aggressor state or carry out actions against Ukraine will not only lose state awards, but also all related privileges and financial support. The draft law provides that the decision to revoke awards can be made not only by courts, but also by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), which is put into effect by a decree of the President of Ukraine. Persons deprived of awards must return them together with relevant documents within 30 days.
Changes to the Tax Code also affect persons who popularize or justify the occupation of Ukrainian territories. This, in particular, concerns well-known personalities such as Yuri Boyko, Nestor Shufrych, Oleg Tsarev, Mykola Azarov, Viktor Medvedchuk and others. These persons, despite their actions against the state, still have state awards, which caused outrage in society.
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, announced that a special commission will be created in Ukraine to determine persons subject to the deprivation of state awards. He emphasized that this is an important step for restoring justice in Ukrainian society. All decisions will be made on the basis of court decisions and relevant evidence. Stefanchuk also noted that there will be enough traitors who will be deprived of awards, and this will have a positive effect on the morale of society.
