The spring equinox is an astronomical event that marks the beginning of astronomical spring and symbolizes the balance between light and darkness. In 2025 it will come on March 20 at 11:01 in Kiev time, when the sun crosses the celestial equator, equalizing the duration of the day and night.

The equinox occurs twice a year - in March and September, when the sun is in the zenith above the equator. This is the only period when day and night are almost identical in duration throughout the Earth except the polar regions. In ancient times, this day was celebrated as the beginning of the New Year. The ancient Slavs believed that the equinox brings the renewal and revival of nature. With the advent of Christianity, many ancient rites have transformed. For example, the Feast of Forty Saints, celebrated on March 22, partially inherited the traditions of the spring equinox.

- The Jews during this period prepare for the Pesakh - the holiday of freedom and exit from Egypt.
