War veterans will be exempted from physical tests when joining the police force

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a bill that simplifies the procedure for recruiting veterans to the police force. The document provides for amendments to Article 50 of the Law of Ukraine "On the National Police" regarding the verification of candidates who participated in hostilities in the east of the country or during a full-scale war with Russia.

As reported by Taras Melnychuk, the government representative in the Verkhovna Rada, the initiative is aimed at resolving the issues of accepting into the police force persons who were wounded, contused, injured or ill during hostilities.

The draft law proposes to exempt such citizens from mandatory physical fitness testing if they apply for positions, the list of which will be determined by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Thus, the government seeks to create fairer conditions for veterans who have combat experience, but due to the consequences of injuries cannot fully meet the requirements of physical selection.

The initiative covers participants in the anti-terrorist operation, the Joint Forces operation, as well as those who participated in measures to ensure the defense of Ukraine and repel the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.

It is expected that the adoption of this bill will contribute to the recruitment of veterans who have unique combat experience and motivation to serve the state into the police force, and will also be an important step in the process of their social integration.
