The first vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kornienko, expressed his attitude to the possibility of mobilizing people's deputies in connection with the growing tension in the east of Ukraine. According to the vice-speaker, according to the new high-profile bill on mobilization, deputies will continue to be exempt from conscription.
When asked whether the mobilization of deputies can help relieve social tension, Kornienko jokingly replied: "Yes, Kim (the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration) said yesterday - which of us is good?"
The vice-speaker examines the issue of the mobilization of deputies through two prisms: legislative-constitutional and moral-ethical. The legislative-constitutional one leads to the conclusion that the absence of deputies in the parliament can make it impossible to adopt important laws and the budget. Moral and ethical concerns the demonstration of responsibility of deputies and their entourage.
Kornienko expressed the view that the mobilization of MPs can interfere with the functioning of the state, but at the same time called on MPs to learn basic military skills, because "problems with the northern neighbor may end much later" than the term of office of the current members of the Council.
Finally, the vice-speaker expressed confidence that the rumors about the possible mobilization of deputies could be the result of Russian propaganda, since it is beneficial for Russia to keep the Ukrainian parliament from working.
