From Tesla to Toyota: which cars are chosen by Ukrainian ministers

In 2024, Ukrainian government officials replenished their fleets with new purchases. The declarations show that the ministers and their deputies bought four cars with a total cost of over 3 million hryvnias. The most expensive purchase was a Tesla Model S , which was purchased by Deputy Minister of Community Development and Infrastructure Anatoly Komirny.

Tesla Model S for 1.3 million hryvnias

On October 4, 2024, the Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization, Anatoly Komirny, who had a successful career in IT before working in the government, purchased a 2020 Tesla Model S for 1.3 million hryvnias . Considering the savings indicated in the declaration (76.5 thousand dollars, 30 thousand euros and 380 thousand UAH in cash), the purchase of a car did not become a financial burden for the official.

Toyota Venza: a bargain or a car with a secret?

Deputy Minister of Health Edem Adamanov bought a 2014 Toyota Venza for 452,000 hryvnias. The price of such a car on the market starts at 600,000 hryvnias, but it can be lower if the car has a high mileage or has been in an accident. It is interesting that his colleague from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dmytro Hryshchak, chose an older Toyota Venza model of 2012 , but paid 200,000 more - 660,000 hryvnias.

The Minister of Health and his Skoda

On September 12, Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko purchased a 2019 Skoda Octavia for 630,000 hryvnias. The car was bought from a company engaged in fitting and customs clearance of cars. This price corresponds to the market value of the car.

At a time when public finances are under the scrutiny of the public, the purchase of expensive cars by government officials raises certain questions. Especially against the background of different prices for similar cars or understated official transaction amounts. However, according to the law, the expenses of government officials must correspond to their income, and the assets indicated in the declarations do not indicate violations.
