The Vienna court decided to refuse the extradition of Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash to the United States of America. This was reported by the Austrian publication Vienna Online , emphasizing that the court's decision is the number of steps in a legal battle that has been going on for several years.
The decision of the Vienna Regional Court was adopted on November 7, the press secretary of the court confirmed. The prosecutor's office plans to file an appeal.
Firtash was arrested in Vienna in March 2014 and released on bail of 125 million euros.
The Americans accuse Firtash of corruption in connection with the never-realized titanium deal in India. Firtash denies the accusations and speaks of politically motivated persecution.
It should be noted that already after this court decision, Britain introduced sanctions against Firtash. He was accused of "concealing tens of millions of pounds of income from the UK property market".
There is a version in Ukrainian business circles that these sanctions were introduced at the request of the Americans in "revenge" for the Austrian court's refusal to extradite Firtash.
