In Ukraine, where constant power outages have become the norm, the threat to the health care system and the well-being of the population is growing. Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko warned about the potential danger of outbreaks of serious diseases, such as hepatitis and cholera, due to disruption of water supply systems, which could cause drinking water contamination.
The connection between electricity and water supply is particularly important: power cuts often lead to water supply interruptions. After long interruptions and restoration of water supply systems, there is a risk of water contamination by pathogenic microorganisms, which creates conditions for the spread of infectious diseases through the water route of transmission.
In this regard, it is necessary to take preventive measures: the population is advised to boil water before consumption, use bottled water and observe the rules of personal hygiene. Health authorities should strengthen monitoring of the quality of drinking water and be ready for rapid response in case of outbreaks of infectious diseases.
