Reconstruction of Ukraine after the war will cost more than 1 trillion dollars

The number of Western companies that have expressed a desire to join the process of rebuilding Ukraine is gradually increasing. Private and state-owned foreign firms are already actively working on plans for post-war reconstruction of the country. According to the European Investment Bank, the volume of investments in this project may exceed 1 trillion dollars.

Among the companies that intend to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war, the following are noted:

  1. Metinvest BV is the largest steel producer, which estimates that the construction of housing and social infrastructure will require about 3.5 million tons of steel over the next 5-10 years.
  2. Rheinmetall AG is a German engineering and weapons manufacturer that plans to launch the production of 155-mm artillery ammunition in Ukraine.
  3. Fixit is a manufacturer of building materials, which last year announced the opening of a new production facility in western Ukraine.
  4. Bayer AG is a chemical company that plans to invest in seed production.
  5. Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems is an Austrian company that has already started working in the western regions of Ukraine, manufacturing modular steel bridges that cross rivers and valleys.

Also, Turkish companies, in particular Onur Group in cooperation with Korean Samsung C&T Corp and Dogus Construction, are working on the restoration of bridges and roads in Ukraine. The largest of them, Onur Group, has already completed 70 projects worth about $1 billion.

The reconstruction process not only involves large financial investments, but also has its own challenges and nuances. In particular, the focus needs to be on supporting people and their well-being, not just on finances. The chief economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development emphasizes that the success of Ukraine's reconstruction depends on the patience of Ukrainians and the implementation of peace agreements, as well as Russia's compliance with international obligations.

The head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Development and Reconstruction of Ukraine believes that the country has better reconstruction prospects than ever before. However, successful recovery requires time, patience and engagement with all stakeholders.
