Exacerbation of the situation in Ukraine and the ongoing war with Russia is a serious challenge for US President Donald Trump. Despite the White House's desire to focus on domestic and other international issues, the conflict in eastern Europe continues to remain at the center of world attention. At the same time, there are suggestions that Moscow may make requirements to amend the Constitution of Ukraine, in particular in the issues of territorial integrity.
The former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom and an ex -foreign affairs exceeding Vadim Prystayko said this on the air of Radio Liberty.
Speaking of what Trump's plan is, he noted that the war in Ukraine "does not fit into their scheme of range around the world" and "prevents Trump administration from focusing on China, South Asian region."
“In general, leave Europe, resolve their own issues. And so at first such a thesis is driven: "Let's decide everything in 24 hours." If this does not happen, the deepening begins to the first level of the problem ... That is, the second option is done. And they look what the reaction will be from Ukraine and from Russia, ”Prystayko said.
According to him, now the stage when the first proposals of Ukraine were made and it shows that they do not suit it.
Answering questions about the concessions that can be expected from Ukraine, the excellence noted that he was concerned that "our territorial concessions are constantly mentioned in the course of these conversations."
"First, it is unpleasant to hear, because it is exactly against how Ukraine imagines a just peace ... It is definitely against world international law," he said.
In addition, Prystayko emphasized that it is not clear how it will help Ukraine to "get out of conflict".
“If you even imagine that Russia needs these lands ... They have so many lands that have fallen and they do not know what to do with them. Moreover, it only gives them more appetite. Because they still have this land now. The legalization of this "acquisition" for them does not cost so much to take and stop the war, "the ambassador said.
He added that it is obvious to Ukraine "the opportunity to suspend the war at least where it is now, and to defend what is considered by Ukraine."
When asked how Washington can expect that Ukraine will legally or technically form something like that will literally write down the territories of Russia or "freeze" the front and make settle with the control of Russia of these territories - Prystayko expressed the opinion that "as of today there is no clear understanding of the administration."
At the same time, he said, "Putin imagines it", which, according to the excendant, wants to make changes in the Constitution of Ukraine, which the Russians demanded.
“Refusal to areas, recognition of many things. This is a very unpleasant mechanism that will be pushed. And I am afraid that the American administration will be so directly stated by the Russian Federation: "We want to see changes to territorial integrity in the Ukrainian Constitution." Trump and war in Ukraine
Earlier, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Theodoras Ruspoulos stated that Trump could lead "to find a solution or at least to find a common path for dialogue" on war in Ukraine.
According to Ruspoulos, Trump "as a businessman is ready to do everything very quickly", and he has already "played a decisive role in the Middle East and in the release of part of the hostages."
