Poltava-style wars: a pensioner ordered her neighbor's eyes to be gouged out

In Poltava, 62-year-old pensioner Maryna Novikova decided to take revenge on her neighbor for long conflicts, but her methods are shocking. The woman turned to an acquaintance with a request to find executors who would kidnap the man for $500, take him out of town and deprive him of his sight.

According to the investigation materials, in July 2024, Novikova developed a plan in detail. She provided the executor with a photograph of the neighbor, a description of his route and place of residence. The condition of execution was the preservation of the victim's life, but with the obligatory infliction of serious bodily injuries.

The accused also stated that she would return the money for the order after confirming the infliction of serious bodily injuries.

However, the plan failed. Information about the order reached the law enforcement officers, who staged a kidnapping and an attack. On July 25, Novikov was detained while handing over $500.

At first, the October District Court of Poltava placed the woman under 24-hour house arrest, but later she was taken into custody. However, in two weeks, the pensioner returned to house arrest again. The lawyer justified this by the fact that her son is a drug addict and needs his mother's help, and Novikova herself has serious health problems.

"She is positively characterized by the neighbors," the lawyer noted, although the neighbors themselves may not be so categorical after the crime is revealed.

What threatens the pensioner?

In mid-October, the investigation was completed, and the indictment was submitted to the court. If Novikova is found guilty, she faces seven to ten years in prison.
