The Yavoriv District Court of Lviv Oblast has sentenced a combatant who was absent from his military unit for over nine months without permission from his command. This is Oleksandr R., a native of Slavutych, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, who was found guilty of desertion.
According to the case materials, on August 7, 2024, Oleksandr R. left the unit without permission and was outside it until May 23, 2025. By the time of his return, more than 9 months had passed.
At trial, the man pleaded guilty and explained his actions by his health and emotional burnout. He stated that he had been serving since 2015 and had the status of a combatant, but in recent years he had begun to feel serious exhaustion, both physical and moral.
Judge Nataliya Kondratyeva took into account the circumstances, but sentenced him to five years in prison under Part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - unauthorized abandonment of a military unit or place of service under martial law. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
