Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Security Service of Ukraine, exposed a case of official negligence that caused the state losses of over 4.3 million hryvnias.
In June 2024, the chief of staff of one of the military units in the Mykolaiv region allowed the baseless accrual of additional payments to servicemen who did not participate in hostilities.
According to the SBI, the official entrusted the preparation of documents regarding payments to his subordinate, who did not have the necessary experience. As a result, the latter agreed to reward soldiers who did not perform combat missions. Despite this, the chief of staff did not check the subordinate's actions and signed the documents, thereby causing significant losses to the state.
At present, the official has been charged with suspicion under 4 Art. 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — negligent attitude of a military official to his duties, which caused grave consequences in the conditions of martial law. The article provides up to 8 years of imprisonment.
The investigation is ongoing, measures are being taken to compensate for the damages caused to the state.
This case once again emphasizes the importance of strict compliance with the standards of official control, especially in the conditions of martial law, when every hryvnia must be directed to the needs of defense and provision of real combatants.
