The commander of the "Freedom" battalion, Petro Kuzyk, during an interview on the "News Factory" program, talked about the critical problems faced by the Ukrainian infantry at the front. One of the most serious threats is unpunished enemy artillery strikes on infantry positions.
The main problems on the front line
Kuzyk emphasized that enemy artillery remains one of the key challenges for the Armed Forces. "Enemy artillery rams infantry positions with impunity. Something must be done about this," said the commander. He also noted that the Ukrainian military was not fully prepared for such a large number of enemy FPV drones and means of dropping ammunition from drones.
Successful combat against enemy drones requires electronic warfare (EW) systems. According to Kuzyk, there are very few of these facilities at the front, and the bulk of the equipment is supplied by volunteers. Although the Ukrainian forces were able to partially defend the positions, the enemy continues to inflict serious blows with the help of its UAVs, in particular the Russian "Orlans" and Zala.
Kuzyk noted that although the Armed Forces have already started shooting down enemy drones, these are still isolated cases. "It is necessary to "blind" their artillery, and then, in principle, you can work," he added.
According to Kuzyk, in order to save the lives of soldiers on the front line, more EW means and systems for counter-battery combat are needed. Their presence can significantly increase the chances of survival of Ukrainian infantry in the combat zone.
