German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made his first visit to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. His arrival in Kyiv was an important event in the context of Germany's increased support for Ukraine.
Scholz will reportedly meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today.
He arrived in the Ukrainian capital early in the morning by night train and said upon arrival:
"For over 1,000 days, Ukraine has been heroically defending itself from ruthless Russian aggression.".
With his visit, the Federal Chancellor wants to express his solidarity and make it clear that Germany will remain “the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe,” writes Tagesschau.
It is noted that this is Chancellor Olaf Scholz's second trip to Ukraine since the start of the Russian war. Scholz was previously in Kyiv in June 2022.
Germany will allocate 650 million euros in aid to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced.
According to Scholz, this aid will be delivered in December of this year.
Germany will remain Ukraine's strongest supporter in Europe. At my meeting with Zelensky, I will announce a further €650 million in defense equipment, which will take place in December
