Vitamin Youth: How D protects the body after 50 years

It is at this age that it is especially important to maintain yourself from the inside. Although all vitamins play an important role, according to scientists, one of them is crucial for healthy aging - Vitamin D.

Why Vitamin D?

Metabolism changes with age, and the body absorbs nutrients worse. Vitamin D thus becomes a real shield for health. According to Kevin Cook (USA), this vitamin: this vitamin:

  • strengthens immunity;

  • preserves bone health;

  • reduces inflammation;

  • Improves mood and even maintains hormonal balance.

Its natural sources are sunlight, fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, tuna), egg yolks, mushrooms, dairy products.

Vitamin D slows down an aging at a cellular level

In a four -year study, which has swept over a thousand people from the age of 50, one group took 2000 IU (international units) of vitamin D3 every day, and another group. Those who received vitamin have a slowdown in the shortening of the telomer - the end areas of chromosomes responsible for the "biological clock" of the cell.

The longer the telomeres, the better the cells are protected from aging. And although it is impossible to stop the process completely, vitamin D slows its course.

How D works against aging?

Specialists distinguish several basic mechanisms:

  • Anti -inflammatory action. Vitamin D reduces systemic inflammation, which is considered a catalyst for many diseases, including cardiovascular and degenerative.

  • Strengthening of immunity. After 50 years, the immune response weakens. D maintains it at a proper level, reducing the risks of infections and chronic diseases.

  • Protection of mitochondria. These cellular batteries are responsible for energy. Vitamin D helps them to work more efficiently, which has a positive effect on physical endurance and clarity of thinking.

  • Stimulation of glutathione. It is the main antioxidant of the body. It neutralizes oxide stress, which leads to cell aging and disease development - from diabetes to cancer.
