German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made his first visit to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022. His arrival in Kyiv became an important event in the context of increased support for Ukraine from Germany.
According to reports, today Sholtz will meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
He arrived in the capital of Ukraine early in the morning on a night train and said upon arrival:
"For more than 1,000 days, Ukraine has heroically defended itself against ruthless Russian aggression."
With his visit, the federal chancellor wants to express his solidarity and make it clear that Germany will remain "the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe," writes Tagesschau.
It should be noted that this is the second trip of Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian war. Before that, Scholz was in Kyiv in June 2022.
Germany will allocate 650 million euros in aid to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.
According to Sholtz, this aid will be delivered already in December of this year.
Germany will remain the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe. At the meeting with Zelensky, I will announce the further supply of defense equipment in the amount of 650 million euros, which will take place in December
