Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Volyn region Mykola Vasylenko sold an old car and purchased a new crossover in one day, which raised questions about the transparency of his financial transactions.
Until recently, the Vasylenko family had two cars: a 2016 Volkswagen Passat and a 2018 Ford Escape. Both cars were declared at a significantly undervalued price – the Volkswagen for UAH 280,000, the Ford for UAH 134,000, while their market price was many times higher.
On January 17, 2026, the prosecutor's declaration showed income of UAH 580,000 from the alienation of movable property, probably a Volkswagen. On the same day, Vasylenko purchased a 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid crossover for UAH 1 million. Even taking into account the sale of the old car, the question remains where the additional funds for the new purchase came from. According to previous declarations, the prosecutor had significant cash savings, which probably covered the difference.
Of particular note is the change in the valuation of the old car: initially it was declared at an undervalued price, and when sold – at the market price. The simultaneous purchase of a new, more expensive car creates the impression of a complex financial transaction that requires additional explanation for the prosecutor's office official.
Vasylenko's financial maneuvers emphasize the importance of control over declarations and transparency of public servants' expenses.
