Russian occupation troops are advancing in the direction of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, which poses a real threat to the front on the border with Dnipropetrovsk region. According to military expert Oleh Zhdanov, in the event of a loss, the Pokrovsk region may be faced with the need to restrain the aggressor's advance on new frontiers, which, unfortunately, are not yet ready.
The expert emphasized the importance of the urgent construction of fortifications and defensive lines in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In his opinion, preparatory measures should have started long before the current situation. Zhdanov noted:
"Let's see what the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration came up with today to a critical point, when it is necessary to be responsible for whether the region is ready for defense."
The capture of Pokrovsk is the key goal of Russian troops. Without this, an attack on Dnipropetrovsk region is unlikely, however, the enemy has concentrated significant forces in this direction.
Fighting in this direction remains extremely fierce. As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi stated, the enemy has an advantage in manpower, but the Ukrainian defenders are showing resilience and inflicting significant losses on the enemy.
According to experts, the Russians are betting on capturing the city, which could pave the way for further escalation.
In the event of the loss of Pokrovsk Ukraine, it may be necessary to quickly transfer reserves to new lines of defense. At the same time, fortification works in the Dnipropetrovsk region should become a priority. A delay in preparation can be costly as the aggressor continues to concentrate forces for an offensive.
