According to data from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), during the period from November 29 to December 9, 2023, the number of Ukrainians ready to make territorial concessions to achieve peace increased. The study was conducted by telephone among 1,031 participants from different regions of Ukraine, excluding the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Over the past six months, this willingness has increased by 9 percentage points. From May 2022 to May 2023, approximately 8-10% of respondents were ready for territorial concessions, while 82-87% spoke against them. From May to December 2023, interest in such concessions increased from 10% to 19%.
In the same period, the number of opponents of territorial concessions decreased: from 84% in May to 74% in December. Changes are observed in different regions of Ukraine: from the southeastern regions, support for concessions has shifted to measures and central parts of the country.
Even with the growing readiness for territorial concessions, a significant majority of respondents (from 68% to 79%) remain against them. It was also noted that those who support such actions are more pessimistic in their views, but most believe that with proper support from the West, Ukraine will be able to achieve success in this direction.
