More and more Ukrainian entrants are choosing a foreign education: Austria is one of the leaders

The number of Ukrainian students and students who seek higher education abroad is growing rapidly. According to the educational company "Look broader", only in the first quarter of 2025 the number of requests for entry into foreign universities increased by 30% compared to last year. The geography of the selected countries covers Austria, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Austria was one of the most attractive countries for Ukrainian students. According to the statistics of the Austrian statistics, from 2021 to 2024 the number of Ukrainian students at Austrian universities increased from 2 077 to 3,324 people - 60% more.

Austria is a new educational hub for Ukrainians

The founder of the company "Look Wider" Dmitry Vyhovsky notes that Austria today offers more than 15 English -language programs designed specifically for Ukrainians. Among them are prestigious educational institutions: Vienna University, Graza Technical University, Vienna Economic University, Vienna Technical University, University of Inns, Vienna University Webster, Module University of Vienna.

"During the war, our mission is to help Ukrainian students to receive quality education, including abroad, and after completing their studies - to return them to Ukraine to become part of the economic restoration," Vyhovsky emphasizes.

Why do Ukrainians go to study

The increase in interest in learning outside Ukraine is directly related to a full -scale war that Russia is leading against our country. Infrastructure, breaks in the educational process through shelling and air alarm have been destroyed, temporary occupation of part of the territories - all this makes it impossible for stable education in many regions. International law experts call such actions elements of genocide against the Ukrainian people, in particular in the context of purposeful destruction of the education system.

Data and forecasts

Saved Foundation's research , 26% of Ukrainian youth declare a desire to study abroad. In parallel in Ukraine, the number of freshmen was reduced: in 2024, 80,000 students entered higher education as higher than in 2023.

The Ministry of Education of Ukraine also reports that in 2023 about 400 thousand Ukrainian students were outside the country. Experts expect that much of them will choose to study abroad in the future.

This trend also confirms CEO "See Wider" by Alexander Kovalskaya: "In 2023 we received 6600 requests for entry, in 2024 - 8500, and in 2025 - 3100 already in the first quarter. It is almost twice as much as in the same period of 2023."

Prospects for the future

Despite the difficult situation, educational companies continue to support Ukrainian students. At the same time, the question remains: will Ukraine be able to return these young specialists in the future? Definitely - only if the safety, stability and clear state strategy in the field of education.
