"The Dirty War in Ukraine is just beginning" - this is how the famous American journalist David Ignatius, commenting on the Ukrainian special services, has been commenting on the latest actions of the Ukrainian special services.
According to him, in the conditions where the policy of the Donald Trump administration (which is actively preparing for a new presidential cadence) is increasingly moving away from the role of the peacemaker, Ukraine remains extremely dependent on the effectiveness of its own intelligence. It is, in particular, about the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, which, according to the observer, have moved to a new stage - maintaining a "dirty war".
The key example of Ignatius calls the SBU operation called "Spider web", which resulted in a strategic aircraft strategic aviation. The journalist emphasizes that the intelligence service managed to avoid the leakage of information - even the deputy chairman of the SBU was not aware of the details. It is only known that the SBU Chairman Vasyl Malyuk directly informed the President of Zelensky, but bypassed other high -ranking officials.
"Secret operations of the SBU and GUR are increasingly reminiscent of the CIA and FBI's actions in times of rigid interagency rivalry," the journalist writes. According to him, now the front is not limited to the line of trenches - it extends far beyond Ukraine.
In particular, Ignatius assumes that new forms of attack should be expected in the near future - including sighting liquidations, diversions, as well as infrastructure and facilities in third countries that support the Russian military efforts.
He emphasizes: "The front line in Ukraine will remain a hell filled with drones and artillery. But the war changes: shadow actions of special services can radically change its course."
According to Ignatius, the new SBU and GUR strategy is a response to a deadlock at the front. Instead of a front offensive, a sophisticated operation that can demoralize the enemy, undermine trust within Russian military structures and force Moscow to spray resources on internal security.
The Washington Post emphasizes that Ukraine is currently operating more on its own without notifying its partners about all plans - and this is becoming a new reality of war, which can no longer be limited to the framework of "pure" military confrontation.
