From March 3, 2025, Great Lent will begin for believers, lasting until April 19. This period is a time of cleansing the soul and body from “burdens,” when believers need to abandon animal products and perform spiritual practices in preparation for Easter.
What can you eat during Lent 2025 – food calendar for every day
During Lent 2025, it is forbidden to eat animal products. This includes meat, eggs, milk, and dairy products. However, there are three days when it is permissible to eat fish:
- April 7 – Annunciation;
- April 12 – Lazarus Saturday;
- April 13 – Palm Sunday.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, a strict fast is established, when only dry food is allowed. This means that on these days believers should eat only uncooked foods – fruits, vegetables, nuts, honey, seeds. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, cooked food is allowed. On weekends, the fast is less strict.
This food calendar mainly concerns church ministers and those believers who want to make a feat of faith. However, there are some relaxations for ordinary believers: they can eat hot food and fish on any day.
If you can't give up meat immediately, try starting small: eliminate eggs or dairy products from your diet. The Lord will appreciate even small steps taken with sincere faith.
Who can not fast during Lent 2025
Fasting should help a person, not harm their health. Therefore, some categories of believers may not observe the fast:
- children;
- pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers;
- elderly people;
- people with serious chronic diseases;
- military personnel at the front and people working in difficult conditions.
However, even these categories of believers are not exempt from spiritual restrictions. During fasting, one cannot sin, quarrel, or abuse alcoholic beverages.
After the end of Lent, believers will celebrate Easter 2025, which will be special: Catholics and Orthodox will celebrate this celebration on the same day.
