What holidays are celebrated on November 28 in Ukraine and the world?

November 28 is a date known around the world for its combination of commercial, cultural, scientific, and spiritual events. On this day, stores in different countries operate with deep discounts, Ukraine commemorates specialists fighting money laundering, and folk signs call for listening to the experience of the older generation.

International events November 28

The fourth Friday in November is traditionally known as Black Friday. The big sale, which begins in the United States, covers almost the entire world, turning stores into the epicenter of excitement. Even businesses that do indeed reduce prices receive increased profits due to mass demand.

In contrast to the shopping boom, there is an alternative holiday - No Shopping Day. Its supporters suggest giving up unnecessary consumption for at least one day and rethinking your own shopping habits.

The scientific community is celebrating Red Planet Mars Day today. On this day, science popularizers hold educational events, talk about Martian research, and astronomy enthusiasts try to find a red object in the night sky.

Other international events include Information Day, Logistician Day, Charity Day, Systems Engineer Day, and even French Toast Day.

Church holiday

According to the new style, November 28 is the day of remembrance for the martyr of Constantinople, Stephen the New, who was executed for his steadfast faith. In the ancient Orthodox calendar, Saints Gurias, Aviv, and Samon are commemorated on this day.

Believers traditionally turn to Saint Stephen with prayers for help in difficult life situations, relief from illnesses, and fulfillment of desires.

Holiday in Ukraine

Ukraine celebrates a professional holiday on November 28, initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2020 - Financial Monitoring Worker's Day. Specialists in this field fight money laundering, "gray" money flows, and suspicious transactions, helping to counteract corruption schemes.

This day is also associated with the names of prominent Ukrainians born on November 28. Among them are writer Zinaida Tulub, theater director and producer Serhiy Proskurnia, and firefighter and rescuer, Hero of Ukraine Ilya Akhmetgareyev.

Folk omens on November 28

The end of November is a period of preparation for wintering. On this day, our ancestors would get warm clothes, strengthen their homes, and feed the birds by hanging feeders in their gardens. It was considered a special omen to see a jay near the house - it foreshadowed great happiness.

Among other folk observations:
• wet snow - to a damp and late spring;
• snowfall - to a snowy December;
• berries on cherries - to a delay in frosts;
• cold wind - to severe Christmas frosts.

It was also believed that on November 28, it was worth listening to the advice of older relatives - they could protect against mistakes and bring wisdom.

That today cannot be done

Traditions forbid borrowing things or money on this day if there is a fear that they will not be returned. It was not recommended to be jealous, complain about fate, and think badly. A separate prohibition concerned cruelty to animals - it was believed that this brings misfortune.
