What holidays are celebrated on September 21 in Ukraine and the world?

September 21 is a date rich in holidays, celebrated in different countries of the world. In Ukraine, this day is associated with professional and family holidays, important church events, and ancient folk customs.

Holidays in Ukraine

Today, forestry workers celebrate their holiday - Forest Workers' Day. Also, on the third Sunday of September, Ukrainians unofficially celebrate National Father's Day. All dads and grandfathers receive congratulations.

In addition, Chernihiv has its own holiday on September 21, which is City Day. This is a long-standing regional center that in 2022 received the honorary title of “Hero City” for its heroic resistance to the Russian army.

Church holiday

In the church calendar, on September 21, according to the new style, Saints Codratus of Athens, Bishop Hypatius, and Presbyter Andrew are honored. They are prayed to for healing from chronic illnesses.

According to the old calendar, this date was associated with a great holiday - the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

International holidays

The UN has declared September 21 the International Day of Peace. On this day, actions and meetings are held dedicated to stopping wars and conflicts in the world.

In addition, the world is celebrating Alzheimer's Awareness Day, Anti-Monoculture Day, Zero Emissions Day, and Mini Golf Day today.

Folk signs and customs

According to folk signs:

  • if it gets warmer, the weather will be good by the end of the month;

  • the cat is hiding in a warm place - expect frost;

  • heavy dew - to warming;

  • It's cloudy, but butterflies are flying - it won't rain.

Our ancestors believed that on September 21, you shouldn't be lazy. You should spend the day working: whoever does a good job in the garden or cleans the house will ensure the well-being of the family until the end of the year.

That cannot be done today

Church traditions warn against quarrels, insults, and gossip. Also, one should not deceive or break promises. Laziness on this day was considered a bad sign that could bring misfortune.
