March 25th is a day that Ukraine celebrates with several important events at once: a religious holiday, a professional date, and a number of international initiatives. This day is traditionally considered special, as it is associated with spiritual practices, folk signs, and certain prohibitions.
According to the new church calendar, Christians celebrate the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to the biblical story, it was on this day that the Virgin Mary learned from an angel about the birth of Jesus Christ. The holiday falls exactly nine months before Christmas and is considered one of the most important in the Christian tradition.
At the same time, according to the old style, believers honor Saints George the Two-Worded and Theophanes the Confessor.
In addition to its religious significance, March 25 is celebrated in Ukraine as the Day of the Security Service of Ukraine. In modern conditions, this date takes on special significance, as SBU employees play a key role in countering threats, identifying sabotage groups, and protecting the state.
At the international level, this day is celebrated as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery, initiated by the UN. Its aim is to draw attention to the problem of modern slavery and support victims.
Among the less official dates is Waffle Day, which has become popular in various countries as an occasion for culinary experiments and informal celebration.
In folk tradition, the Annunciation was considered one of the most important holidays of the year. Ukrainians believed that on this day one could not work — even birds, according to legend, did not build nests. People tried to visit church, pray for health, well-being, and forgiveness of sins.
There are also many signs associated with this day. For example, if a birch tree is actively secreting sap, it means rainy April, and rain on March 25 portends a flood. The appearance of the first insects was considered a sign of rapid warming.
As for prohibitions, believers are not recommended to do physical work, cleaning or repairs. It is also considered a sin to quarrel, envy or judge others. It is also not customary to get married or get married on this day.
Recall that we previously wrote that before major church holidays, in particular Easter, it is important to adhere not only to everyday traditions, but also to spiritual preparation - to complete tasks in advance, avoid conflicts, and pay attention to one's inner state.
