According to American analysts at The New York Times, Ukraine may have managed to survive for a period of this year without increased military aid from the United States. However, such a course of action would negatively affect the prospects for rebuilding the Ukrainian army.
According to the publication, this moment is the most dangerous for Ukraine since the start of a full-scale war. The New York Times notes that Ukraine will not be immediately defeated without American help, but there is a significant risk of a shortage of equipment and ammunition to replenish its troops. Analysts believe that European countries do not have enough resources to provide Ukraine with this level of support.
The lack of further American aid, experts say, could signal a serious deterioration in the situation in the second half of this year. The reduced level of aid is affecting the battlefield, where Russia is using its advantage in artillery and personnel to break through Ukraine's defenses.
It is worth noting that part of the US military and financial aid package frozen in Congress will not be entirely directed towards new weapons for Ukraine. Some of it will be used to replace weapons already delivered from US arsenals, and other funds will be used for maintenance, spare parts, training and other needs.
