Just bought a smartphone and are you feeling its speed? Even on a pure Android or iOS device, it often contains unnecessary apps that slow down your device, drain your battery, and track your activities. Here is a list of apps that you should get rid of first.
Pre-installed games and bloatware
Apps like “Asphalt 9” or “Candy Crush Saga” are installed through affiliate agreements. They take up memory, run in the background, display ads, and collect analytics. To remove them, open Settings → Apps and disable or uninstall unnecessary packages.
Optimizer applications
“Clean Master”, “DU Speed Booster” and similar utilities promise to speed up your smartphone, but on the contrary, they overload the system, close background processes and slow down message delivery. Instead, it is better to clear the cache manually via Settings → Storage .
Built-in browsers
Samsung Internet, Mi Browser, or Opera Mini may be outdated, collect data, and display ads. It's better to use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Brave.
Social networks you don't use
Snapchat, WeChat, TikTok, and others are constantly refreshing your feed in the background and collecting data. For Facebook, you can try the alternative client Frost or use the mobile version of the site.
Unnecessary Google services and proprietary applications
Not everyone needs all of Google's services — Google Play Music, Google Duo, or Google Books just take up space. Leave Gmail, YouTube, and Google Photos, and disable the rest. Branded app stores (Huawei AppGallery, Galaxy Store) duplicate Google Play features and force updates — disable them if you don't use them.
Weather widgets and news aggregators
AccuWeather, News Republic, Bing News are constantly synced and can collect geolocation. It's easier to use Google Weather or Windy - they are more accurate and don't load the system.
Regularly cleaning your smartphone and removing unnecessary apps will help maintain speed, extend battery life, and reduce privacy risks.
