US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15 to discuss a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.
According to NBC News, the White House is also considering inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the meeting. Sources say that no final decision has been made yet, and it is not yet known whether Zelensky will travel to Alaska. A US administration official said that a trilateral summit is “absolutely possible,” but that the focus is now on preparing for bilateral talks with Putin.
Trump previously said that there is now a possibility of reaching a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. According to special representative Steve Witkoff, Putin allegedly announced the conditions under which Russia is ready to stop fighting. The details of these conditions have not been officially disclosed, but Trump hinted that it is a possible exchange of territories.
At the same time, the media notes that Moscow has not abandoned its plans, and Putin's position may have been misinterpreted. European diplomats emphasize that Putin's willingness to meet with Trump does not automatically mean a deal or a truce.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has clearly stated that Ukraine will not cede any of its territory to Russia as part of potential agreements.
