In Ukraine, mobilization of military conscripts after the age of 50 is carried out on a general basis, but not everyone at this age is subject to conscription. Roman Simutin, a lawyer and former deputy of the Kyiv City Council, told UNIAN about this.
According to him, men over 50 are mobilized if they have no reason to postpone. Those with scarce specialties, for example, signalmen, are especially actively called up. At the same time, if a conscript has three or more categories “B” (limitedly fit) according to the conclusions of the VLK, the conscription may be in question. This concerns serious health problems - heart, hernias, gout, etc.
Those who have only one or two “B” categories are mobilized without additional obstacles.
As for the areas of service, men after 50 are usually not sent to assault units. If they have military experience or a specialty, the conscript is sent according to their profile - to infantry, logistics, security, communications, or medical units. If they do not have experience, after basic training they can be sent to places where there is a shortage of people, or to defense enterprises.
Regarding mobilization after age 55, it follows the same principle, but the closer to age 60, the less often candidates are considered due to the approaching service age limit.
