Lviv remains an important political center of Western Ukraine, where the main political forces define the city as an important player in the Ukrainian political arena. The most influential party in the city is European Solidarity, which controls the majority of seats in the city council.
Until the end of 2022, European Solidarity was mostly financed by the financial and industrial group of Hryhoriy Kozlovsky, a well-known Lviv entrepreneur who owns the Lviv Tobacco Factory, the Grand Hotel holding, and other assets.
Hryhoriy Kozlovsky, who is a significant figure in Lviv, after leaving Poroshenko's party and resigning from his parliamentary duties, continues to maintain influence over individual deputies of the European Solidarity faction. However, in the last few years, his funding of the party has been stopped, and now Kozlovsky is trying to completely distance himself from European Solidarity and Petro Poroshenko.
The main competitor of “European Solidarity” is the “Samopomich” party, which is fully controlled and financed by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadov.
Representatives of the “VO Svoboda” party play an equally important role in the political life of the city. The main player in this party remains Ihor Kryvetsky. As a former people's deputy and the main financier of “VO Svoboda”, Kryvetsky is a well-known figure in the Lviv region. It is known that in the past he participated in the alienation of land from military veterans of the ATO in the Lviv region.
